More than forty years ago, Neil Armstrong became the first Man to step on the Moon and uttered the famous words quoted here. Many of us thought that this would launch a new era of space exploration, one leading to permanent human settlements on the Moon and eventual human exploration of Mars. However, only three short years later, the final Apollo mission to the Moon concluded with another famous quote, “We leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace, and hope for all mankind.” - Eugene Cernan, December 19, 1972
